General Information: American martens or pine marten prefer dense, old-growth conifer and mixed stands. Stands must have sufficient understory to support various rodents such as rabbit, mice, chipmunks and voles. Pound for pound one of the biggest attitudes displayed. This animal is rarely a nuisance except to birds and squirrels. We have watched the marten run down an adult red squirrel through the pines and eat him up "Crunch crunch"! We do get several calls a year to rescue them from homes, cars ect..
